The professional programme of this year’s Algesiology Congress Dialogues on Pain in Bratislava was enriched by the educational ultrasound workshop “Advanced USG-guided blockades in pain treatment” on 2 October. Its comprehensive implementation and education was provided by EuroPainClinics doctors and at the same time IPA instructors. Workshop was held under the leadership of Peter Lenčéš, MD, FIPP, esteemed IPA faculty member and specialist at EuroPainClinics Bardejov.
The intensive ultrasound (USG) workshop was prepared in cooperation with the organizing and scientific committee of the Dialogues on Pain congress (read the article about the congress here) and focused closely on the practical aspects of the use of ultrasound in the daily work of physicians. The lecture block and the individual training of physicians at the individual ultrasound stations were led by speakers and instructors from the team of EuroPainClinics physicians certified as FIPP (Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice) by the Medical Director of EuroPainClinics, Róbert Rapčan, MD, FIPP, MBA, PhD.
The theoretical part of the workshop included a series of lectures on the use of ultrasound for individual anatomical structures of the human body, in which doctors shared their practical experience. Ľubomír Poliak, MD, FIPP, focused on the basic terminology and basics of working with ultrasound in algesiology, including technological details of working with ultrasound. Other lecturers covered individual anatomical structures. Peter Lenčéš, MD, FIPP, focused on the characteristics of the head, neck, chest and shoulder, while Michal Matias, MD, FIPP, Medical Director EuroPainClinics for the Czech Republic, focused on the abdominal and pelvic region. The use of ultrasound in the treatment of the upper limb was the content of the presentation by Michal Adam MD, FIPP. The area of the lower limb was covered by the guest lecturer and instructor, Michal Venglarčík, MD, PhD, Deputy Head of the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, Banská Bystrica Hospital.
The afternoon part of the workshop was dedicated to specific training. Five ultrasound stations were prepared and divided according to anatomical structures. More than twenty participants could individually try out working with ultrasound and share their work experience also engage in working discussions. Our experienced colleagues from Interventional Pain Academy with international experience and certification as instructors Róbert Tirpák, MD, FIPP, Ladislav Kočan, MD, PhD, FIPP, Jan Farkaš, MD, FIPP, Luboš Dušek, MD, Mychajlo Zakharchenko, MD, and Peter Vašek, MD, completed the teaching staff in this part.
The ultrasound workshop, according to the positive feedback, met the expectations of all participants by professional provision and management of the course and high quality content of the teaching with useful benefits for medical practice.
