The use of 7StarScope interventional imaging in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia

“The 7StarScope needlescopic interventional imaging allows a clear visualisation of the trigeminal ganglion, which represents a novel approach to the safety of trigeminal neuralgia treatment.”

Invitation to the highly individual cadaver workshop to be held in Warsaw

The trigeminal ganglion is the largest cranial ganglion, which transmits sensory information from the face and jaw to the brain.

Trigeminal neuralgia (TN), also known as tic douloureux, is a type of chronic pain disorder that involves sudden attacks of severe facial pain. It affects the trigeminal nerve, or the fifth cranial nerve, which provides sensation and nerve signalling to parts of the head and face.

Trigeminal neuralgia is a condition characterised by the occurrence of intense pain, which may be described as akin to an electric shock, on one side of the face. The condition affects the trigeminal nerve, which transmits signals from the face to the brain. Even minimal tactile stimulation, such as brushing the teeth or applying makeup, may elicit a sudden, intense pain sensation. Trigeminal neuralgia can be a long-lasting condition. It is classified as a chronic pain condition. Initially, individuals with trigeminal neuralgia may experience brief, mild episodes of pain. However, the condition can deteriorate, leading to prolonged periods of pain with increased frequency. It is more prevalent in women and individuals above the age of 50.

At EuroPainClinics in Bardejov, Dr. Peter Lenčéš, a leading regional expert in the field of pain management, works in collaboration with Dr. Ľubomír Poliak, a specialist in the treatment of trigeminal pain. The below-mentioned patient was treated by EuroPainClinics doctors with the aid of the innovative 7StarScope device. A distinctive device that integrates ultrasound technology with a needle-sized endoscope. “The 7StarScope needlescopic interventional imaging allows a clear visualisation of the trigeminal ganglion, which represents a novel approach to the safety of trigeminal neuralgia treatment.”

The patient was a 73-year-old woman who had been experiencing pain in the right half of the face for an extended period. The pain was exacerbated by activities such as toothbrushing and eating. On occasion, even the movement of air caused discomfort. Recently, we successfully treated this patient with trigeminal neuralgia using balloon compression therapy. The patient demonstrated remarkable fortitude throughout the procedure. “This careful approach effectively reduced the patient’s pain and improved her quality of life” as reported by Dr. Ľubomír Poliak, an expert in the treatment of trigeminal pain.

The patient reported feeling well after the procedure and experienced relief from pain as early as 24 hours post-procedure.
